LONG BIO (EPK)

Kyle Bagwell is a singer-songwriter living in Northern California and hailing from a small town in the Texas Panhandle. His songs combine strong melodies with evocative story telling, reflecting the influences of classic country artists like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard as well as modern country artists such as Charley Crockett and Colter Wall. His debut EP, Love's Gone Again, is composed of six original songs that feature recurring themes of hardship and elusive hope.

Highlights of the EP include The Devil Must Play, an uptempo but despairing song about a man’s struggle with his demons, Outlaw’s Lament, an outlaw song about the long reach of past decisions, and the title track Love’s Gone Again, a sorrowful ballad about lost love and the hopelessness that sometimes ensues.

Bagwell co-wrote the songs on the EP with Kenny Corso, with each song embodying Bagwell’s original melodies and lyrics and Corso’s original guitar parts. The EP features Bagwell’s deep, smooth baritone along with exceptional contributions by Corso (guitar), Andrew Currier (bass) and Darius Minaee (drums). Bagwell and Corso co-produced the EP.

Bagwell is currently at work on a new album. Tentatively entitled Changing Directions, the album explores the emotions that surround difficult life decisions and key moments of change. The songs again build from the foundation of traditional country music, but sometimes also reflect blues, jazz and singer-songwriter influences. More details soon!

With Anna Troy, Bagwell is also in Bagwell & Troy, an Americana roots band. Bagwell & Troy have released two albums and an EP. Their releases contain many original songs, all co-written by Bagwell and Troy.

  • Love's Gone Again (song):  Alt77
"Kyle Bagwell’s “Love’s Gone Again,” on the other hand, has only the truth and reality on its side. This is a classic country blue-hearted ballad in the style of Merle Haggard."

  • Love's Gone Again (EP):  Daily Music Roll: Online Music Magazine
Among the highlights, ‘The Devil Must Play’ also stands out for its clever songwriting and memorable impact on the listeners. This track is another example of Bagwell’s gift for painting relatable characters through music.

  • Love's Gone Again (EP):  Skope
“…a promising and emotionally coherent debut that is quietly persuasive in its treatment of heartbreak and regret.

  • Love's Gone Again (EP):  Von Philipp Gottfried at Sonic Realms
His characters lose partners, control, freedom, and—ultimately—the certainty that hope alone can fix things….Bagwell knows the genre's tradition intimately.”  (Google translation from original German)

  • Love's Gone Again (EP):  The Bandcamp Diaries
Warm acoustic guitars, expressive vocals, and layered electric guitars give the record a timeless quality, while subtle modern touches prevent it from feeling nostalgic for its own sake.

  • Love's Gone Again (EP):  Dave Franklin at Dancing About Architecture
Love’s Gone Again might be Kyle Bagwell‘s debut release, but the songwriting chops and deftness of delivery found here reflect the long and rich experience that backs up this musical six-shooter.

  • Love's Gone Again (EP):  Samuel Fredrickson at Planet Singer
…a Stunning Debut EP…Country music has always found its greatest strength in honest storytelling, memorable melodies, and heartfelt performances.…Kyle Bagwell delivers all three in abundance, introducing himself as a compelling new voice whose music bridges the traditions of classic country with the spirit of contemporary Americana."

  • Love's Gone Again (EP): Buddy Nelson at Jamsphere
A Texas-raised, California-based songwriter channels Cash and Haggard into six lean, unvarnished country tracks. Six songs, seventeen minutes, and not a wasted line: that’s the calling card of a promising new voice in traditional country….For fans of classic country songwriting and the current wave of artists keeping that tradition alive, Kyle Bagwell‘s debut is well worth the time it asks for.
